From May 12 to 14 local time, Wu Fulin, Chairman of the Export-Import of China, conducted business investigations in Rwanda. During his stay there, Chairman Wu met with Wang Xuekun, Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, to exchange views on economic, trade and financial cooperation between China and Rwanda as well as China and Africa. He also held talks with Uzziel Ndagijimana, Rwandan Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, and Jimmy Gasore, Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure, for in-depth exchanges on further enhancing cooperation. Chairman Wu also paid on-site visit to BRI projects financed by the Bank.
During his meeting with Minister Ndagijimana, Chairman Wu noted that the Bank would continue to implement the nine programs for China-Africa cooperation and the eight major steps taken by China to support high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, promote both signature projects and “small and beautiful” livelihood programs, and make joint efforts with the Rwandan side to boost high-quality economic cooperation and trade between China and Rwanda. Minister Ndagijimana expressed gratitude for the Bank’s support for the economic and social development of Rwanda. He hoped that the two sides keep building on past achievements while elevating the bilateral economic cooperation and trade to a higher level.
During his meeting with Minister Gasore, Chairman Wu said that the Bank had supported a number of infrastructure projects in Rwanda in the fields of transportation, energy and others, which played a positive role in promoting the economic development of Rwanda and improving people’s livelihood. He hoped that the two sides further explore cooperation potentials so as to promote mutual benefit and win-win results. Minister Gasore said that the Bank is an important partner of Rwanda, and the implementation of relevant infrastructure projects had significantly contributed to Rwanda’s national development and transformation. He also expressed the willingness to carry out practical cooperation with the Bank in more fields.
During his stay in Rwanda, Chairman Wu made field trips to the Bugesera International Airport Road (Sonatubes-Gahanga-Akagera) Project and the Rwanda Smart Education Project, looking into the construction progress and performance of these projects and greeting the local staff of project contractors.
