Section B5 of the Belgrade bypass financed by China Eximbank was opened to traffic recently. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Tian Yishu, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy to Serbia, addressed the inauguration ceremony. The event was also attended by Serbian Ministers of Finance and Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
President Vucic noted that with the firm support of Chinese partners, Serbia has built several highways and railroads in recent years, laying a solid foundation for economic growth despite the global downward trend. With the most modernized tunnel along the route, the newly built Section B5 is of great significance to both the capital city and the country. Chargé d’Affaires Tian said that the Chinese company overcame headwinds and completed the construction of the new section with high-quality, and expressed appreciation to the Serbian side for its trust in the Chinese companies and technologies, which fully demonstrated that the goal of China-Serbia cooperation is to promote the well-being of the two peoples.
As an important part of Belgrade’s transport network, the new section is of great significance to relieving traffic pressure and enhancing regional connectivity. The 20.34-kilometer bypass is divided into three sections, of which section B4 was inaugurated in April 2021. The successful opening of section B5 marks the completion of another key juncture of the project. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, China Eximbank has taken proactive measures to provide full financing support to the project. At present, the building of remaining sections is well underway.
