Chairman Hu Xiaolian Visited Namibia and Samoa and Attended the 3rd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum

  With the aim to fully implement the eight major initiatives unveiled at the 2018 FOCAC Beijing Summit and actively promote bilateral cooperation on economy, trade and infrastructure, China Eximbank Chairman HXiaolian visited Namibia from 16 to 18 October and held talks with relevant government officials of Namibia. She subsequently paid a visit to Samoa from 20 to 22 October, attended the 3rd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum, and delivered a speech at the sub-forum themed “Tourism and Infrastructure Investment.  

  On the afternoon of October 16 local time, Chairman Hu Xiaolian held talks with Minister of Finance and Minister of National Planning Commission of Namibia in the capital city of Windhoek. Chairman Hu Xiaolian said that China Eximbank regards Namibia as its important cooperative partner and highly values its cooperation with the country. The Bank will actively implement the MOU signed with the Ministry of Finance of Namibia and work jointly to facilitate the implementation of major projects. China Eximbank is willing to maintain close communication with Namibia for further deepening bilateral cooperation for win-win results.  

  Chairman Hu Xiaolian was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 3rd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum in Samoa on 21 October, and delivered a speech at the sub-forum themed “Tourism and Infrastructure Investment”. She noted that China Eximbank has supported a large number of projects in the areas of infrastructure construction and industrial investment in Pacific island countries, such as the Faleolo International Airport Upgrading Project in Samoa co-financed by China Eximbank and the World Bank. Such projects have played a positive role in creating new growth drivers and promoting green and sustainable development in the host countries. In the free discussion session, Chairman Hu Xiaolian exchanged views with other speakers on opportunities and challenges facing the Pacific island countries in infrastructure development and answered questions from the attendees.  

  During her stay in Namibia and Samoa, Chairman Hu Xiaolian also paid on-site visits to projects financed by China Eximbank in both countries.
