In the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Hu Xiaolian, Chairman of China Eximbank, and Velasco, Director of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System of the Philippines, signed the Loan Agreement on Kaliwa Dam Project in Manila on 20 November 2018.

The project is about building a concrete-faced rock-fill dam in the lower reaches of the Kaliwa River in the eastern region of Manila. The reservoir has a water storage capacity of 57 million cubic meters and a water supply tunnel from the dam to water treatment plant will also be constructed. Once completed, the project will significantly increase water supply and improve local people’s living standards. It is another great effort made by China Eximbank to support public-benefit projects in the Philippines and deliver tangible benefits to local people.

Going forward, China Eximbank will further leverage its role as a policy bank to fully implement the consensus reached by the two presidents during President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Philippines, and continue cooperation in the Philippine market to lift China-Philippines practical cooperation to new heights.
