On 23 July, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Hu Xiaolian, Chairman of China Eximbank and Ndagijimana Uzziel, Rwandan Minister of Finance and Economic Planning signed a loan agreement for the Huye-Kibeho-Ngoma/Munini Road (66KM) Project and the Bugesera International Airport Road (Sonatubes- Gahanga-Akagera) Project in Kigali, capital of Rwanda.
The Huye-Kibeho-Ngoma/Munini Road (66KM) Project involves the upgrading of unsurfaced roads in Huye and Nyaruguru, two provinces in southern Rwanda. The project can help boost the transport and investment conditions and promote the development of local tourism and agriculture industries. Moreover, it is conducive to improving the country’s traffic conditions with its neighbor Burundi, while facilitating trade ties between the two countries.
According to Rwanda’s transport development plan and the requirements for auxiliary road infrastructure for the Bugesera International Airport, the road (Sonatubes-Gahanga-Akagera) project for the airport involves building an expressway linking the urban area of Kigali to the new airport. This will effectively relieve traffic congestion, save the transit time of tourists and cargos, and increase the tourism revenue of Rwanda.
Going forward, China Eximbank will continue to play out its role of providing policy finance and follow the principle of sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith to grow relations with Africa. China Eximbank will go all out to implement the consensus on cooperation reached during President Xi’s visit to Rwanda, continue to tap into the Rwandan market, and help the country diversify its economy and enhance its capacity for independent development, and thus make even greater contribution to deepening China-Rwanda and China-Africa relations.
